Saab has delivered to Boeing the final aft airframe section for the T-7A Red Hawk trainer aircraft being developed by the latter for the U.S. Air Force.

Boeing said Thursday the aft is the final delivery in the T-7A’s engineering and manufacturing development phase and completes the aft fuselages that have been integrated with the forward section of the aircraft.

Saab manufactured the five aft fuselages in Linkoping, Sweden, and is set to produce T-7A’s rear sections at its manufacturing facility in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The T-7A is an advanced pilot training system that has digital fly-by-wire controls, open architecture software and advanced cockpit technology.

The Air Force awarded Boeing a potential 16-year, $9.2 billion contract to manufacture up to 475 T-X trainer aircraft and 120 ground-based training platforms. The service expects the delivery of the first aircraft and simulators to take place by 2023.
