Northrop Grumman has received a $22.1 million contract from the U.S. Space Force to provide the service branch with a satellite bus that will be used on its Rapid On-orbit Space Technology Evaluation Ring program.

The ROOSTER space vehicle is envisioned to be capable of supporting future refueling activities in a geostationary orbit, the Department of Defense said Friday.

The multi-manifest rideshare satellite will also allow for on-orbit operational and prototype missions as well as technology maturation efforts.

Northrop’s space systems sector will construct the satellite at its Dulles, Virginia location. Work under the cost-plus-fixed-fee undefinitized contract will run through Feb. 28, 2026.

Space Systems Command is obligating $4.2 million in fiscal 2022 research, development, test and evaluation funds of the Space Force at the time of award.
