Tony Frazier, executive vice president and general manager of public sector Earth intelligence at Maxar Technologies, said the company’s work on the U.S. Army’s One World Terrain program, a key component of the Synthetic Training Environment, seeks to modernize soldier training using geospecific data, C4ISRNET reported Monday.

In February, Maxar secured the Phase 3b award through a prototype other transaction agreement to continue work on the OTW program.

Frazier, a 2023 Wash100 awardee, told the publication in an interview about the vision of Lt. Gen. Maria Gervais, the first cross-functional team lead for the Synthetic Training Environment, for the immersive training-and-rehearsal platform.

Her vision at the time was: If we can have reps and sets with hundreds of experiences in the virtual environment, then we can help soldiers be safe when they actually deploy,” he said.

“That has continued to be the core focus of the program. That being said, as we exposed the data to different parts of the community, there was insatiable demand from the operational users to apply it to current missions,” Frazier added.

Frazier discussed the role of commercial capabilities in the Department of Defense’s integrated deterrence initiative and the company’s involvement in DOD’s Project Maven.
