L3Harris Technologies will provide large wideband satellite communications terminals and support services to the U.S. Army.
The defense company recently secured a firm-fixed-price contract valued at $99.4 million for the connectivity technologies and services, the Department of Defense said.
Work on the contract will be performed until June 26, 2032, with locations to be determined per order.
The Army Contracting Command at Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois serves as the contracting activity.
The U.S. Army is exploring the use of commercial satcom services to deliver connectivity to deployed troops.
In 2023, the service revealed plans to acquire satcom terminals to build Family of Terminals – Large, which will consolidate up to six terminals into two variants, SpaceNews reports.
The satellites must be capable of operating across multiple frequencies, including Ku, Ka and X bands.
L3Harris already provides satcom technologies and services to the U.S. military.
The Florida-headquartered company supplies large fixed satcom terminals to replace AN/GSC-52, AN/GSC-39, AN/FSC-78 and other aging technologies globally.
Its Hawkeye terminals also deliver real-time situational awareness to soldiers on the battlefield.
The L3Harris Hawkeye III Lite very small aperture terminals are installed on Army vehicles.
