L3Harris Technologies has conducted a preliminary design review of a prototype electronic warfare system meant to protect U.S. Navy F-18 fighter aircraft.
Work on the prototype is being carried out under an $80 million Navy contract, with prototype system integration lab testing being eyed for summer, L3Harris said Tuesday.
The upcoming system would be the company’s latest offering to defend F-18 aircraft.
The AN/ALQ-214 on-board jammer is already in use on F-18s, offering protection against integrated air defense systems and radio frequency threats.
Naval Air Systems Command has awarded the company over $2 billion to develop and produce the jammer.
