IBMlogo3 EbizIBM (NYSE: IBM) has introduced new cloud-based application development servers for developers to build and assess their products.

The IBM Power Development Platform is a free resource for clients such as Linux developers to develop big data, mobile and social business computing applications through the IBM Power Systems servers, IBM said Tuesday.

Doug Balog, general manager of IBM Power Systems, said the new cloud platform is intended to help spur application development work for customers.

Developers have access to IBM’s POWER7 and POWER7+ servers that run Linux, AIX and IBM i operating systems through the PartnerWorld program, as well as the Software Group Software Access Catalog that contains software applications.

The PDP features a Linux porting image with IBM’s DB2 10.x, WebSphere 8.5.5, and Linux development tools.

IBM also updated the PDP with additional Linux development tools, reservation navigation and social media integration.
