ComputerCodeMicrosoft and Xamarin have partnered to establish a technology consortium that aims to help developers build computing applications based on Microsoft’s .NET programming framework.

The .NET Foundation offers open source developers access to Microsoft’s portfolio of Roslyn and ASP.NET application programming interfaces, Xamarin said Thursday.

Miguel de Icaza, co-founder and chief technology officer of Xamarin, has joined the group as a board member.

“The .NET Foundation will help accelerate the adoption of .NET across every platform and computing form factor — servers, mobile devices and desktops,” de Icaza said.

Xamarin has contributed its MimeKit and MailKit cross-platform email templates to the alliance.

The company also plans to integrate the Roslyn compiler platform into its C# mobile development platform.
