HARRIS1Harris Corp. has completed the installation and integration of 89 out of 155 ground segment components of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite — R Series weather monitoring tool of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The company said Tuesday the tested network infrastructure hardware and software is located at NOAA’s satellite operations facilities in Suitland, Maryland; Wallops Island, Virginia; and Fairmont, West Virginia.

Romy Olaisen, vice president for civil programs at Harris Government Communications Systems, said the systems delivery and integration work is in preparation for the first GOES-R satellite launch in 2016.

Harris has also provided its Release Mission Management software to deliver ground segment capabilities such as real-time satellite command and control and mission planning and scheduling.

The ground system is expected to facilitate a faster processing and exchange of detailed meteorological data with the National Weather Service and 10,000 direct users, Harris said.

The company is the GOES-R ground segment prime contractor and systems integrator.
