market researchMarketsandMarkets forecasts an 8.06 percent compound annual growth rate for the image sensor market by 2020 to reach a total market value of $15.77 billion and cites that trend to new CMOS design and fabrication technology.

The market research firm said Thursday that companies emerging to develop the market include Aptina Imaging, Canon, CMOSIS, OmniVision Technologies, ON Semiconductor, Samsung Group, Sony, STMicroelectronics, Teledyne DALSA and Toshiba.

Asia-Pacific will also have the biggest market share at 38.30 percent with a 10.15 percent CAGR over the next six years.

The firm projects the Middle East, Africa and South America to achieve a 9.75 percent CAGR due to bolstered telecommunications infrastructure.

MarketsandMarkets noted that image sensors have consumer, medical, automotive and surveillance applications, particularly in imaging devices such as camera-enables mobile phones.
