A Siemens business unit has won an $11 million contract to help the United States Geological Survey implement methods for saving energy and conserving water at three agency-run facilities.

USGS and Siemens Government Technologies will execute water and energy efficiency initiatives at the agency’s headquarters in Virginia, environmental science research facility in Missouri and fisheries research center in Washington, Siemens said Friday.

The agency plans to finance the project’s cost with savings guaranteed by the company.

“Siemens is proud to work with the USGS to apply our innovative energy and environmental expertise to help USGS meet its mission to save energy and use renewable energy,” said Judy Marks, Siemens Government Technologies president and CEO.

Work includes deploying solar panels and upgrading building automation, lighting, chiller plant, lighting and water systems.

The Energy Savings Performance Contract allows the agency and the company to extend energy conservation work to other agency-operated facilities.
