UAVThe U.S. Army has been developing an open architecture for military drone ground control stations in collaboration with software company Real-Time Innovations and General Dynamics‘ advanced information systems business.

RTI said Wednesday the framework supports the Future Airborne Capability Environment program that aims to help the government and industry boost interoperability between avionics platforms.

“In working with the Army our primary objective is to enable avionics systems to be more reusable and interoperable while meeting stringent government standards,” said David Barnett, RTI vice president of products and markets.

The company will integrate its Transport Services Segment software into an open architecture prototype for Army unmanned aircraft GCS through the initiative.

RTI’s TSS is built upon the Object Management Group‘s data distribution service middleware standard and designed to serve as the reference interface among portable applications and platform-specific services.

The FACE Consortium intends to make the open framework available to organizations that aim to build drones and related ground infrastructure.

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems and RTI are among more than 70 members of the government-industry consortium.
