Lockheed Martin BlueLockheed Martin has received approval from the U.S. Air Force to begin full-rate production of the company’s Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range for the military service.

The Air Force completed operational test and evaluation on the extended-range missile variant last year, Lockheed said Monday.

The company was awarded a contract in December 2013 to build 100 missiles for the JASSM program’s production lots 11 and 12.

JASSM baseline and ER platforms are manufactured at Lockheed’s facility in Troy, Alabama and are designed with a dual-mode penetrator, an infrared sensor, a GPS receiver.

The company says it has assembled more than 1,500 JASSM cruise missiles for the Air Force to date.
