F35 Air MissileLockheed Martin has selected Textron Systems’ radar signal simulator as a preflight tester for Lockheed’s F-35 Lightning II electronic warfare systems.

The Textron Inc. business will supply handheld Model 527TM radar simulators for EW preflight testing on all F-35 variants under a three-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, Textron said Tuesday.

Steve Mensh, Textron Systems senior vice president and general manager, said Model 527 and other preflight testers are intended to help fulfill the mission requirements of aircrews.

The radar signal simulator is designed to determine the status of installed EW radar warning receiver systems and verify both operational readiness and threat recognition systems across antennas, transmission lines, radomes, cockpit displays and controls.

Model 527TM works to simulate threats such as simple, continuous-wave, pulsed single emitters and multiplexed RF emitters.
