mentorship, discussion, advisoryNorthrop Grumman and professional services firm Qtec have joined a U.S. Missile Defense Agency mentor-protege program that is meant to encourage small businesses to participate more in federal subcontracts.

Northrop said Friday it will mentor Qtec in business development, information assurance, systems engineering and cybersecurity under a three-year agreement.

“This agreement aligns with Qtec’s long-term strategic goals of expanding the depth and breadth of our technical and management capabilities,” said Qtec CEO Kathryn Broad.

Dan Verwiel, vice president and general manager for the integrated air and missile defense division at Northrop’s information systems business unit, said the company aims to help “improve and broaden Qtec’s viability and competitiveness” through the MDA program.

Northrop also plans to collaborate with Oakwood University to train and prepare Qtec information security personnel for security certifications.

The Huntsville, Alabama-based company has supported Northrop on multiple defense programs since 2001.
