research-and-development-RDThe U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory has released a broad agency announcement focused on advancing the development of high-powered electromagnetics for directed energy-powered weapon systems under its five-year, $140 million High-Powered Electromagnetics research program, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Wednesday.

John Keller writes AFRL plans to use the HPEM initiative to push for the development of the technology for other applications such as power electronics, antenna systems, cyber and electronic warfare, and electronics-equipped weapons based on a FebBizOpps notice dated Tuesday.

The military branch plans to grant one contract for each of the research platform’s six technical categories, including HPEM Effects, Numerical Simulation, HPEM air-force-tile-adTransition and Electromagnetics Weapons Technology.
