CenturyLink has launched a hydroelectric-powered data center that can back up to 30 megawatts of information technology workload in central Washington.
The company said Wednesday the Moses Lake, Washington-based facility will get part of its electricity supply from Columbia River and will provide colocation, network, cloud and managed services to its clients in the area.
David Meredith, senior vice president at CenturyLink, said the data center has the lowest seismic rating of 2B that makes it an ideal site for disaster recovery efforts.
Kelly Quinn, research manager with IDC, said, “The central part of Washington state is one of the geographies in which I see substantial potential for further growth as a data center hub.â€
“The location should help enable CenturyLink’s new data center to provide customers with the ability to achieve higher levels of density without incurring high power costs.â€
