BoeingLogo1 EbizBoeing‘s Phantom Works business has built an ultra-lightweight truck called Phantom Badger that the company could offer for the U.S. Army‘s Ultra-Light Combat Vehicle program, Breaking Defense reported Monday.

Sydney Freedberg Jr. writes that a component of the U.S. Special Operations Command asked Boeing to design a vehicle that its V-22 Osprey aircraft can carry.

The company is yet to decide whether to pursue a bid for the ULCV program, which aims to equip the 82nd Airborne Division with the truck, the report said.

“It’s going to depend on what the Army’s requirements are and what the business case is for Boeing,” Kim McCamon, program manager for the Phantom Badger at Boeing, told Breaking Defense.

Freedberg reports that the truck, which has a width of up to 60 inches, has already participated at a ULCV demo and expeditionary warfare event and tested at the Nevada Automotive Test Center.

The Phantom Badger also features shock absorbers built by small business partner MSI, the report said.
