droneThe U.S. Army has used a new remote system to demonstrate a General Atomics-built MQ-1C Gray Eagle drone at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, the Army News Service reported Wednesday.

David Vergun writes F Company/227th Aviation soldiers managed the unmanned aircraft system’s payload with the One System Remote Video Terminal during a military exercise.

OSRVT is comprised of a laptop, radio transceiver, antennas and software and is designed to collect surveillance data and images from UAS.

Col. Courtney Cote, UAS project manager at the Army, said the military service aims to equip 15 combat brigade units with Gray Eagle drones by 2018.

Cote added an independent testing organization validated the results of the MQ-1C payload control technology assessment and could release data later this year.
