The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration plans to contract with Raytheon for Phase II development of Coyote unmanned aerial systems that NOAA intends to use to collect hurricane data.
NOAA said in a June 12 FedBizOpps notice that it intends to buy three Raytheon-built Coyotes fitted with communications technology and meteorologic sensors.
The company would also help test and operate the UAS for tropical storm research during this year’s hurricane season, according to NOAA.
Raytheon designed and developed an airborne meteorological data sampling technology for the agency under a previously awarded contract.
