Symantec CEO Michael Brown believes the Internet of Things brings a “huge opportunity” for the company in its efforts to help protect e-commerce transactions, Economic Times reported Friday.

Brown told Economic Times’ TV Mahalingam that Symantec considers endpoint protection as its biggest business.

“We protect a billion devices today… from set top boxes, point of sale displays, ATM machines,” he told the publication.

“Those machines are already connected to the Internet and we are authenticating these devices,” Brown says.

Brown also recommended companies extend their security approach beyond protection to detection, Economic Times reports.

“And how do you respond and remediate – make sure that you close that vulnerability quickly,” he added.

Brown also noted that the mobile threat landscape is expanding in India due to what he describes as a growth in mobile device adoption, Mahalingam reports.

“That’s a big trend on the consumer side globally and in India, we are seeing that on the company side as well,” Brown said.
