army-vehicleA BAE SystemsNexter joint venture has been awarded a $233 million contract to manufacture 40mm cannon systems for integration onto the British army’s Scout and Warrior armored fighting vehicles.

The British army will receive 515 CTA International-built cased telescoped cannons during the next seven years, BAE said July 1.

Initial delivery is scheduled to occur in mid-2016.

CTAI designed the weapon for military users to fire munitions at high elevation while on the move.

The company received certification from the British and French defense agencies for its cannon technology in June 2014.

BAE says it manufactures cased telescoped cannon ammunition for the British military at the company’s facilities in Washington and Glascoed, Wales.
